Rare Cornish Turquoise Sterling Silver Ring

Rare Cornish Turquoise Sterling Silver Ring

An opportunity to own a beautifully designed piece featuring rare Cornish Turquoise!  The turquoise in this ring was sourced from the now filled in Gunheath China Clay Pit, in the St Austell district of Cornwall.

Fancy cut and claw set in a beautiful adjustable sterling silver ring, the gemstone measures approximately 15x10x5mm.

This stunning ring can cleverly span ring sizes K-Q (UK) or 5¼- 8¼ (US) without compromising the design concept too much . Comes in a Two Skies jewellery box, with Turquoise pamphlet, ready for gifting.

RESIZING ADJUSTABLE RINGS

It is quite easy to change the size of the ring yourself as long as you go slowly and are careful, manipulating the inner area of the band with warm fingers, rather than pulling at the end sections – this will help keep a round shape too. This ring will span quite a few sizes without compromising the original design concept. Once set, it is advisable not to resize again, as silver is quite soft and can become brittle and snap if bent too frequently.

  • Whilst normally thought of as a material sourced from the USA and China, this scarce material is entirely British born! Any visitor to St Austell is likely to be struck by the impressive sharp peaks, known as the Cornish Alps, which dominate the surrounding landscape and represent the most visible part of a story that goes back two hundred and fifty years. China clay, as the name suggests, has been used for thousands of years in China for making porcelain and in 1745 the secret of this process was discovered in Cornwall, and by the early nineteenth century, Cornish China Clay was big business! Cornish Turquoise is a very rare by-product of this industry, but would surely have not been discovered if not for the demand for porcelain dinnerware!
