February's Birthstones

The traditional birthstone for February is Amethyst, and more recently, Jasper. Both gemstones are believed to possess positive and healing energies. Their vibrant and soothing colours have garnered them a multitude of admirers!  The ancient Greeks and Romans held the belief that amethyst possessed the ability to protect against the influence of Bacchus (the carefree god of wine & festivities), ensuring the wearer remained clear-headed and sharp-witted. To enhance this effect, they would sometimes even place these crystals in their wine goblets as a preventive measure against becoming too intoxicated!  Jasper is a stone which has long been held in high esteem and considered sacred in many cultures all over the world. In Norse legend, it is said that the magic sword of Siegfried, the dragon slayer, was adorned with this gemstone. Additionally, the Egyptians believed Jasper to be linked with their goddess Isis and often carved it into amulets for the deceased.
