Ancient Roman Glass Sterling Silver Pendant

Ancient Roman Glass Sterling Silver Pendant

Nature is a wonderful artist! Because glass doesn’t degrade over time, this pendant has a unique rainbow opalescence endowed by the mineral deposits, where the glass lay buried in the soil of ancient cities and settlements. Claw set in 925 sterling silver, this pendant measures roughly 38x17x3mm, including bail. Comes with a complimentary 18" sterling silver link chain and is presented in a quality Two Skies jewellery box, ready for gifting.

A NOTE ABOUT WEARING ROMAN GLASS
If you suddenly notice that your beautiful pendant has gone dull - don't panic! The surface appearance of the glass changes when moisture is added to it, and the colours will 'disappear'. Once the pendant dries, you will notice the vibrant rainbow colours returning. Please bear in mind that the natural mineral coating is delicate, and the pendant should never be 'rubbed dry' but left to dry on its own.  As with all gemstone jewellery, care should be taken to avoid the pendant coming into prolonged contact with water, sweat and perfume.

  • Discovered in ancient Roman archaeological sites in Nimruz, Afghanistan, which is one of the regions of the historic Silk Road trade route. The glass in this aqua-hued jewellery began life as a material commonly crafted for both household goods and in industry.
These ancient glass pieces are commonly referred to as "Roman Glass", and the material for our jewellery is derived from ancient vessels such as cups, vases, and perfume containers that have sustained the travails of time. The weathered, fragmented and iridescent sheen of these unique pieces makes this a perfect jewellery gift!
