  • The official national gemstone of Scotland! A particular type of smoky quartz found exclusively in the Cairngorm mountain range, it is known as 'Cairngorm quartz', 'Cairngorm stone' or simply 'Cairngorm'! It was extraordinarily popular during the Victorian age and was a favourite gem of the queen herself. Whole families of prospectors nicknamed 'diggers' worked on the mountains throughout the 1800s searching for this rare crystal. Two Skies has managed to obtain rough material from a private historic collection, which when cut made such high quality faceted stones that even we were amazed.

This stone was collected by Adam's good friend Dr David Anderson in the early 1980s (before national park status). Genuine Cairngorm Quartz can no longer be found as the land is now protected by The Cairngorms National Park Authority, which makes this gemstone a very rare find. Dr Anderson is well known for being one of Scotland's foremost authorities on native minerals and gemstones, and is the author of the celebrated book 'Scottish Agates', which has been displayed across the country.
