Lovingly hand-mined and polished Lewisian stone. Lewisian is an amazingly complex blend of Scottish rock which gives us stones with incredibly vibrant and beautiful colours - all natural! Set in 925 sterling silver, with a beautifully intricate Celtic knotwork design.

Earrings measure approximately 23x11x5mm, not including sterling silver ear hooks. Lewisian gemstones measure around 13x5x3mm. Comes in a quality Two Skies presentation box, ready for gifting.

Please note that we have more than one pair of these earrings in stock, so you may or may not receive the exact pair in the photographs. Each Lewisian stone is unique but there are very trace differences in each stone, and our current stock is represented very well by the example pair shown in the photos.

Scottish Lewisian
Lewisian comes from the Isles of Lewis, Harris and North Highlands. It is collected from the ancient bedrock of Scotland and is one of the oldest rocks in the world, up to 3 billion years old (3,000,000,000 years!). It is a unique composition of many minerals including Feldspar, Epidote and Quartz, all of which are part of the "Lewisian Gneiss" complex. Lewisian has been treasured for thousands of years by the clans of Scotland. It was used by the Megalithic cultures to construct monuments such as the Callanish stone circle on the Isle of Lewis

Sterling Silver (925%)
STERLING SILVER (925%)

Why do silversmiths use 925%? Measured in parts per thousand, pure silver (999%) is too soft so silversmiths mix it with other metals to make it it harder. The purer the metal, the higher the polish, but it is a lot softer (thus less durable). The harder the metal is, the more hard wearing the jewellery is, but it will also tarnish easier as it has less silver content. Therefore, the silver industry set a standard percentage content for fine silver (925); what we know as "sterling silver". At Two Skies our silversmiths use 925 (sterling) silver for ring shafts and moving parts, and a very high 950% on our stones settings, which enables us to get a strong jewellery item with a beautiful and secure stone setting, without any gluing. Each piece of our jewellery is hand stamped with our Two Skies Hallmark alongside the recognised industry 925 Hallmark.
