mexican turquoise

Rivalling that of the South West American mines, most of the turquoise mined in Mexico comes from the Sonora region, which includes Cananea. Mexican turquoise is generally very high quality and is found in shades of blues and green. Turquoise has been prized for jewellery by Mexican silversmiths for centuries. The Aztec civilisation traded using turquoise, as well as using it for jewellery and decoration – the famous Montezuma Serpent is thought to be around 500 years old, and is decorated with mosaic tiles of turquoise.
